How computers Store information, and The Role of RAM in computers.
Computers have several ways of storing data for the user one way is a Hard disk drive (HDD, hard drive, HD) this is a drive that consist of a spinning disk that stored bits using magnetism. There is also a Solid-state drive (SDD) this is similar but it uses a chip to store information. Solid-state drives are much faster at access information than the standard Hard disk drive, also because of that fact they are also more expensive than your stand hard drive. Computers also use memory and cache to store information as well. Even through that you have information stored on a computer’s hard drive I would still back up any important or even sentimental information that you have. I believe backing up files to another source of memory is important because if your computer “dies” on you, you still have all your important information. I will give you an example on my phone I use a Micro SD card to store my music and photos taken on my phone, I also use a cloud base storage system just in case anything happens to my phone or the SD card. One day I got an update for my phone and the update deleted everything on my SD card, on that card was pictures my daughter on there from birth until 1 and years old Gone!!!. Good thing that I had the cloud also backing up my photos so that I did not lose any of those picture and moments that I can’t get back. I back up my files and photos, video and important whenever I add new information.
Computers Random Access Memory (RAM) holds information temporarily, access information from this is much faster than getting it from the hard drive but it does not hold a lot of information. Since RAM temporarily holds memory when power is on, when power is turned off all data that was stored in RAM will be lost. That is why if you need to store information even with no power it is best to storage it on the Hard Drive.
The computer I am currently using has 8 GB with (7.88 GB usable) out of the 7.88 usable RAM I am currently using 4.8 GB of that to run all the programs on this laptop at work. I believe that my laptop computer at work if had more RAM would run more smoothly and efficiently often times we have a lot of our programs freeze on us or it gets bogged down or sluggish performance. If I had less RAM in the computer I don’t really know if I would be able to get everything done in a day that I do. I would say that it would really make for a different time to get work done. I believe the sluggish performance would not be interment as it is now but will be like that just is normal operations.
